Sanoma Media Budapest (SMB) acquired a 50 percent share in the online accommodation booking portal Szallas.hu. The acquisition is in line with the strategy of the media company to improve market share in the segment of online service sales.
Szallas.hu is the leading online booking agency in Hungary. It cooperates with more than 6,500 partners who offer accommodations both inside as outside Hungary.
Sanoma Media Budapest is the leading media company when it comes to reaching the female target group. As women play a key role in taking travel decisions, this acquisition suits SMB?s strategy. It allows SMB capitalizing on synergies between travel and healthconscious lifestyle, a segment where the company reaches 1 million users a month with Wellness, Nok Lapja Egészség, and WellnessCafe.
The other main objective of the acquisition is to improve and strengthen the position of SMB in the segment of online service sales. Sanoma Media Budapest has already been a dominant force in this sector with price comparison websites Olcsobbat.hu and Kirakat.hu, and job search website Profession.hu.
Following the acquisition, the company that operates Szallas.hu shall be managed jointly by Sanoma Media Budapest and the previous management. The company will remain in Miskolc.
